The Sketch
Every vessel starts with the log, not the drawing. We read the figure in each salvaged koa and kamani blank — the curl, the spalting, the stress lines from a life in the wind — and draw the form the wood already suggests. Profiles are templated on paper, then trued in CAD only where symmetry demands it.
02 — The Sweat
The Sweat
Rough-turned green, then rested for weeks while the wood moves and settles. Final turning brings walls down to an even thinness by feel and by ear. No stains, no dyes — hours of graduated sanding and hand-rubbed oil until the grain turns to glass.
