SCENIC ART · SCULPTED WAVE · WAIKĪKĪ

The wall guests meet before the show does. A hand-painted sunrise, a carved kapa sunburst and a breaking wave, built in place at the Outrigger Theater box office while Waikīkī walked past.

01 — The Sketch

The Sketch

The show's creative set the imagery: a rising sun, a sunburst drawn in kapa-style triangles, a wave and a canoe. Our job was to work out how that becomes a physical wall in a public walkway, in what order, and how much of it could be built flat before anything had to be sculpted. The venue never closed, so every stage had to look deliberate at the end of the day even when it was half finished.

02 — The Sweat

The Sweat

The sunrise is painted, not printed: blue through gold to red, blended by hand across the full width so there is no seam to find. The sun went on next, then the sunburst, cut piece by piece and set out on the floor before it went up. The wave and the canoe are sculpted in relief and painted to read from across the walkway, and the logo disc is a raised element that sits proud of everything behind it.

03 — The Reveal

The Reveal

It is the first thing a guest sees when they come for a ticket, and the last thing behind them while they wait. Painted, carved and installed in a live Waikīkī walkway, with the box office open at the foot of it.
